[ale] if 'dpkg' is removed, will this entirely disable all up-dating/grading & apt-get functions ?

The reason I ask is that to install the stable version of coreutils, my
machine is requiring
that I in the process, remove dpkg, if I accede, will I then be unable to
turn right around
and install the appropriate version   ?
