[ale] Kaffeine wierdness in SuSE-9.3: sound, but no picture on AVI

I have a Canon digital camera that takes *.AVI video clips I would like to 
watch on my SuSE-9.3 laptop. When I open a clip I hear the audio, but 
don't see the video - just a black frame. I installed the codecs from 
mplayerhq without any improvement (but I don't know if they are actually 
the codecs used).
