Forget about moving to another distro.
(I just hate it when people suggest moving to a different distro because
they don't know a solution more closely related to the OP request.)

Since you're already using Ubuntu (or Debian) you can use Remastersys. The
best thing to come out of the Ubuntu community is Remastersys.

In fact, I'm typing this using a laptop that was installed using a
Remastersys CD. The directions are VERY straightforward and you should have
instant success.
