It has been alleged that the FBI had backdoors put into OpenBSD IPSEC. If this is true it could be viewed as a blow to open source. Then again it might not. The way I see it, if the FBI used their influence to get a backdoor put in closed source software we would not be able to verify it; at least with opens source we can.
