It is unclear, but is the entire OS encrypted, just the HOME or everything
except /boot?
* Keyboards and mice that need batteries are bad.
* If you use encryption, you NEEEEEEEEED fantastic, automatic, backups.
I'd try these things:
a) use a standard PS2 keyboard. USB is an abomination, prone to problems when
things aren't working. I would suggest using a serial keyboard, but those aren't
very well supported anymore. Anyone else have a Logitech C-Series mouse that
doesn't work?
b) run an fsck of the file system from a rescue boot.
c) setup automatic, daily, backups for the data that you really want to keep.
