Just saw this, which I forward here for those, like me, who hadn't heard:

As someone who had a Unix long enough ago that it still had /sys/ken and
/sys/dmr directories, I am mildly embarrassed to admit that I thought the
names stood for 'kernel' and 'direct memory <something>' - only later did
the penny drop!
