I think that's actually a counter-productive view and probably just 
plain wrong.

While yeah, Unix was a /reaction/ to Multics, I think the divergence was 
at a the level of design approaches, rather than about any of the 
specific technology.

Multics was a classic "big system" design approach.  Unix was a classic 
"minimal system" design approach.
