[ale] X server permissions

I think what is it complaining about is the lack of UnixPtys.. I think you
need to compile the kernel to add support for it (you can also do it as a
module)
IIRC, it should be under the character devices..

PS: I think the error message refers to /usr/src/linux/Documentation (i.e
whereever you untarred/unzipped the kernel source)
