[ale] gentoo (part 2)

I guess I should RTFM a little bit more. The portage
system they employ has merit. And I didn't dive deep
enough to see some of the customizing features
available. 

Might bring this one in for show-and-tell at a future
meeting. (Now that my Thursday night class is OVER)
