[ale] Web browsers crashing in Slackware

I have been having web browsers randomly crashing in
Slackware 8.1.  Mozilla 1.0, Konqueror 3.0.1/2,
Netscape 6.2.3, and Galeon.  They crash despite the
window managers I use.  Sometimes, I would just read
and the browser would just crash.

I have recompiled the kernel 2.4.18 that came with
Slackware 8.1 to accommodate > 1 GB RAM.  I'm not sure
if that's the problem.

I have run Mandrake 8.2 and everything works fine
there except that the kernel wasn't recompiled for > 1
GB RAM.

My system is an Athlon 1.2 GHz with 1 GB RAM.

Any help/suggestion is appreciated.
