It didn't occur to me because I have only used GIMP through the GUI. 'xv'
is another option. I just thought of ImageMagick/display as frequently
used in command scripts. There is a GIMP utility to build thumbnail
_directories_, but I found it deathly slow when I tried to build a
directory for a modest number of large JPEGs.
I'll check 'man' on my candidates.
