Our important work in voicing support for SB-500 to the Georgia Senate
committee representatives was well rewarded. A substitute version of the
multi-partisan SB-500 legislation (the original with a few amendments) was
unanimously passed by a quorum of the Senate's State and Local Government
Operations committee at ~4:30 pm, Thursday, 2004.03.11. A complete copy of
the wording that was passed will probably be available soon, but the core
requirement of including Voter Verified Paper Ballot printouts [VVPB] on all
of the State's Diebold systems has not changed. Details of the bill can be
found at:
   &lt;<a  rel="nofollow" href="http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/fulltext/sb500.htm";>http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/fulltext/sb500.htm</a>&gt;

To gain passage of SB-500 in this 2004 session, our bill now requires
immediate action by the Senate Rules committee, the body responsible for
putting legislation on the debate calendar for the Senate floor.

Any parties who are interested in seeing this legislation passed (ie, any
and all voters with a basic understanding of computer technology and/or
standard accounting practices) are again urged to lobby, call, write, fax or
email our Georgia representatives and members of the Senate Rules committee
from now through Tuesday, 2004.03.16 with their [succinct] comments in
support of this important VVPB bill. The list of committee members and their
contact information links can be found at:

If you are a Georgia resident with pertinent information and views on this
issue to share with our State Senate members, you have a special invitation
to join other voter rights activists of our coalition in &quot;playing the  ropes&quot;
and lobbying for SB-500 in person at the Georgia State capital building on
Friday, 2004.03.12, Monday 2004.03.15 and Tuesday, 2004.03.16. With a little
luck, you will get so speak directly with one of the Rules committee members
and voice your concerns for restoring voter confidence in Georgia's election
process. The recommended best times are 8:00am to 9:30am and at the afternoon
lunch break, but any respectful presence through the day is helpful. SB-500
lobbyists at the capital may want to seek out the Green party political
coordinator, Hugh Esco, to get a little experienced guidance on acceptable
lobbying procedures.

Note that this bill must pass the full Senate by the 33rd day of the 40 day
session, the &quot;crossover&quot; day, in order to be debated and passed in the house,
and subsequently signed into law by the Governor.

With sincere thanks for all your support and attention,
Aaron Ruscetta
