I believe the best linux options for PowerPC hardware are:

   Yellow Dog Linux (http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/products/ydl/)

   Ubuntu Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com/)

I've not installed either on PowerPC. YMMV.
