This is a private address. It can't be what Bellsouth is assigning you.
If you receive an address in the range 192.168.0.0 ? 192.168.255.255,
172.16.0.0 ? 172.31.255.255, or 10.0.0.0 ? 10.255.255.255 from your
modem, this means that it's more than a modem. It's also a router doing
NAT and running a DHCP server.

There are two ways you can look at this:

1) Boo! I want to be in control of my gateway. I'll figure out how to
set my modem to bridge mode, then I'll set up Smoothwall.

2) Yay! There's very little reason for me to run Smoothwall since the
modem's NAT already prevents anyone from initiating connections to my
machines.
