[ale] xfree still buggy?

in debians woody.. i just reinstalled it from a
previous kernel problem... (wasnt prepared... bummer)
i have an issue with no screens selected. im running a
nvidia gforce and driver the nv, i selected simple
setup cause i do not have the specs of my monitor and
selected a resolution i know it handles.. (btw how do
you change res in linux?) it errors out saying its
found screens but its unable to use them.... any
suggestions?
